Academic Conferences

I have had the privilege of being able to represent my school division at numerous conferences over the past eight years, presenting and being a panel member at the Virginia Society for Technology in Education Conference (VSTE) multiple times, and co-presenting with a science teacher last year at the Virginia Association of Science Teachers Conference (VAST). Charting New Courses with Project Based Learning

VSTE 2024

After working closely with teachers to implement PBL strategies into their classrooms, I partnered with another TIS to present on the intersection of integrating technology into project-based learning. Our session had over 50 participants and earned positive feedback for the quality of resources we shared and the meaningful discussions that took place between us and participants.

Inspiring Scientific Curiosity Through Breakout Games

VAST 2024

Working with a science teacher who I have co-taught a variety of technology-infused lessons with, we presented at VAST for the first time.  We built a tech-centric breakout for participants to solve and then talked them through the steps of building their own. Presenting and attending the conference raised awareness within the division and led to four other science teachers going this year and a participant from our Teachers of Innovation Cohort presenting.

ITRT Return on Investment Panel

VSTE 2023

Spoke as part of an interactive panel with the Coordinator of Technology Integration & Innovation from Goochland County and the Supervisor of Testing and Instructional Technology Manassas City on navigating the ITRT role and how to support a growing team.

I was able to share my perspective as a leader on the Technology Integration Specialist (TIS) team and engage with educational technology leaders across Virginia.

Canvas and Canvas Ain't No Better Pairing

VSTE 2023

This is the only poster session that I done at VSTE over the years. The poster session allowed me to have more small discussions with educators across Virginia. We talked through benefits and drawbacks of Canvas and how Canva can be leveraged to make courses more visually engaging for students and staff. The linked resource gave participants access to a variety of templates I created to share.

Deep Dive Into Student Engagement with Breakout EDU

VSTE 2022

Using the VSTE Standards, I built a Breakout EDU for participants to complete in this interactive presentation. After "breaking out," we compared the premade breakouts available in the library to custom made breakouts. To help facilitate participants in making their own breakouts, I supplied various templates including step-by-step guides for having students make their own breakouts.

All Aboard the Digital Storytelling Train

VSTE 2019

Partnering with another member of the TIS team, we highlighted projects we'd done with teachers that supported student agency through digital storytelling options. We focused on four different types digital storytelling tools: digital posters and infographics, podcasts and audio recordings, eBooks and comics, and videos. This presentation gave us the chance to highlight some of the great teaching happening across the division.

Using Student Choice to Increase Student Voice

VSTE 2017

This is one of two presentations at my first VSTE Conference. This presentation focused on how giving students choice, especially when working with larger projects, increased student agency and buy in. I compared two projects, my literary circle one from when I was in the classroom the year before, and one from our TV Media Production teacher.  The presentation was organized into three main areas where students could choose: the topic, the format, and the level of scaffolding.

Google Slides: More Than Just a Presentation Tool

VSTE 2017

My second presentation my first at time VSTE looked at innovative ways to use Google Slides including: content recaps and jigsaws, children's books, choose your own adventure stories, interactive notebooks, and self-correcting remediation quizzes. For each, I showed an example and provided participants a template that they could make their own.
